Fredericton City Council Appoints
Members to Board, Commissions and Committees
Fredericton,
NB (June 11, 2012) – Fredericton City Council has
appointed recently-elected and acclaimed City Councillors to various boards,
commissions and committees. This includes membership on Municipal Standing
Committees, as well as other municipal, provincial, federal and community
committees.
The
appointments were made at the regular Council meeting of June 11, 2012, and are
in effect for the term of June 11, 2012 to May 28, 2013. At the same meeting,
the new board of directors for the Fredericton Convention Centre Inc. was
appointed.
The
following summarizes key appointments. A complete list of the board, commission
and committee membership can be obtained by contacting the Office of the City

Municipal
Standing Committees
The City
of Fredericton has seven Municipal Standing Committees. The Community Services
Committee will be chaired by Coun. Mike O’Brien; Coun. Kate Rogers will serve
as Vice Chair. The Development Committee will be chaired by Coun. Dan Keenan;
Coun. Leah Levac will act as Vice Chair.
Coun.
Bruce Grandy will chair the Finance & Administration Committee. The Vice
Chair will be Coun. Eric Megarity. Coun. Scott McConaghy will chair the
Information Technology Committee and Coun. Steven Hicks will serve as Vice
Chair.
The Public
Safety & Environment Committee will be chaired by Coun. Scott McConaghy;
Coun. Marilyn Kerton will be the Vice Chair. Coun. Steven Hicks will be the
Transportation Committee Chair and Coun. David Kelly will act as Vice Chair.
Deputy
Mayor Stephen Chase will chair the City’s Planning & Priorities Committee.
While membership on all the other standing committees is divided amongst City
Councillors, all members of Council are considered to be members of this
committee. For now, the mandate and meeting schedules for the City’s various
standing Committees remains the same as before the recent Municipal Election.
Municipal
Boards, Commissions and Committees
There are
14 Municipal Boards, Commissions and Committees to which City Council appoints
members. Key appointments in this category include the continuation of Coun.
Eric Megarity as Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee on Immigration, and Coun. Mike
O’Brien as chair of the Fredericton Affordable Housing Committee, a
sub-committee of the Development Committee.
Deputy
Mayor Stephen Chase continues to serve on the Fredericton Tree Commission.
Coun. Leah Levac will serve as Co-Chair of the Mayor’s Working Committee on
Community/University Relations. Deputy Mayor Stephen Chase will serve as a
member. Mayor Brad Woodside is an ex-officio member of this committee.
Councillors
Marilyn Kerton, Leah Levac, Scott McConaghy, and Kate Rogers have been
appointed to the Planning Advisory Committee. Coun. Kate Rogers will also serve
on the Preservation Review Board. Two new committees for this Council included
a Seniors Advisory Committee, chaired by Coun. Eric Megarity and a Youth
Advisory Committee, to be chaired by Coun. Leah Levac.
Provincial
/ Federal Committees and Community Committees
City
Council also appointed members to six Provincial / Federal Committees and seven
Community Committees. Key amongst these categories was the appointment of
Deputy Mayor Stephen Chase and Coun. Leah Levac to the Association of
Francophone Municipalities of New Brunswick.
Councillor
Marilyn Kerton will serve on the Canadian Capital Cities Organization. Coun.
Eric Megarity is appointed to the Cities of New Brunswick Association –
Executive Committee, while Deputy Mayor Stephen Chase will serve as the Cities’
representative on the Union of Municipalities of New Brunswick.
At the
community level, Coun. Dan Keenan will serve on Business Fredericton North,
with Coun. Bruce Grandy serving as alternate. Coun. Kate Rogers will serve on
Downtown Fredericton, Inc., with Coun. Bruce Grandy again acting as alternate.
Deputy
Mayor Stephen Chase will serve on the Fredericton Public Library Board and as
representative to Le Centre communautaire Sainte-Anne. As part of the
appointments to the Boards, Commissions and Committees, Fredericton City
Council also approved the Board of Directors for the Fredericton Convention
Centre Inc.
Lee Corey,
community representive on the board, becomes Chair of the board. He replaces
Chris MacPherson, Fredericton’s Chief Administrative Officer, who remains a
City representative on the board. The complete list of board members follows:
